Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main age-group pattern accurately: adults aged 18–64 form the largest membership group at 51%, while those aged 65 and over are the smallest at 12%. You also correctly note that children’s and adult fiction each account for 38% of loans, and that children’s DVDs are the smallest category. However, coverage is uneven: the line graph is mentioned only through the claim that loans rose to “210000” in 2016, with no account of the overall movement from about 15,700 in 2007 to 21,700 in 2016 or the fluctuations in between. The 2016 figure is also misstated. A clearer overview and a few key trend comparisons would make the report more complete and better supported.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction and overview to details about membership and then loans. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “To begin with,” and “However” help signal this organisation. However, the overview does not clearly summarise the line graph, and the final paragraph shifts from category shares to the trend chart without explaining the relationship between them. “Likewise” is also used where the next point is not a close parallel. Develop a separate paragraph for the loan trend and use clearer comparisons to guide the reader through the information. These changes would make the progression more consistent and reduce the occasional mechanical feel of the linking.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “proportion,” “membership,” “loan item,” and “shared similar proportion,” and the meaning is generally understandable. There are also attempts at more formal reporting language, such as “significant proportion” and “modest proportion.” Some choices are inaccurate or awkward, however: “an age of library members” does not naturally describe the chart, and “shared similar proportion” is an unclear collocation. “Total figure” is vague, while “210000” is not an appropriate way to present the reported figure. Aim for precise chart language and conventional collocations, such as “the age profile of members,” “accounted for equal shares,” and “the total number of loans.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including a relative clause in “young adults who were 13 to 17 years old” and a contrastive opening with “In contrast.” Most of the message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. For example, “public library in a city” needs an article, and “there was majority of adults member” has problems with both the article and plural agreement. “Children’s” is used where the plural noun “children” is needed, and “the total loan was significantly increased” has an incorrect verb construction. Practise article use, plural forms, and active versus passive verb patterns, while keeping the sentence structures you already attempt.
