Student answer (Band 6.0)
The pie chart gives the proportion of the different age of people used in Little Chalfont Library. The table provides data of total loans given by the library in various categories, and the bar chart compares total number of loans given between 2007 and 2016.
Overall, the library was mainly used by the Adults (18-54), followed by Children at the second place. While a children and an adult fiction were the highest books given in the loans, and the bar chart shows many flucutations over the period with stable growth at the end of the year.
In the pie chart, Adults (18-54) were at the top for using the library (51%), followed by the children at the second place with around 22%. Rest of the two age factors, Young adults and Adults shared approximately 15% and 12% respectively.
In the table, the most books for the children interested in such as fiction, non-fiction and DVDs had around 38%, 6% and 1%. A young adults books only had nearly 2%, and rest for the Adults 38% for fiction books, 13% for non fiction and only 2% for the audio books.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You cover all three visuals and provide an overview, identifying adults as the largest membership group, fiction as the leading loan category, and an overall rise in loans by the end of the period. Most figures are accurately reported. However, the overview could be more precise: loans did not show simply “stable growth at the end”; after a dip in 2013, they rose steadily to about 21,700 in 2016. The age label “Adults (18-54)” is inaccurate; the chart says 18–64. The trend description also says loans reached 20,000 in 2011, whereas the chart indicates about 21,000. These are limited inaccuracies, but more careful selection and reporting of key comparisons would make the summary more complete and precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the membership figures, loan categories, and yearly totals. This makes the information easy to locate, and transitions such as “Overall,” “In the table,” and “In 2007” help signal the topic. Some connections are less controlled, however. The overview sentence beginning “While a children and an adult fiction…” is grammatically incomplete and does not connect smoothly to the following point. Phrases such as “followed by the children at the second place” are repeated, and “by the time” does not clearly express the progression being described. More concise comparisons and clearer links between the overview and supporting details would strengthen the progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for describing charts, including “proportion,” “compares,” “declined trend,” and “gradual increase,” and the reader can generally understand your intended meaning. However, several word choices and collocations are unnatural or imprecise, which limits the range and control. For example, people do not “use” a library “at the top,” loans are not “given” in categories, and “age factors” is not an appropriate label for age groups. There are also spelling errors, including “flucutations,” and inconsistent forms such as “non fiction.” Aim for standard chart language such as “accounted for,” “loaned,” “category,” and “fluctuations,” and check spelling and word forms carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex structures, including comparisons and time clauses, and the main information is usually understandable. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly in articles, agreement, and verb forms. For instance, “the different age of people” should be “the different age groups,” while “a children and an adult fiction were” has incorrect article use and an awkward subject structure. “The numbers were started” is an incorrect passive construction; use “the number of loans stood at.” In “a young adults books only had,” the determiner and plural forms do not agree. The sentence beginning “While” is also incomplete as written. More reliable sentence patterns and careful checking of agreement and clause completeness would improve accuracy.
