Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify some relevant features, including the joint highest loan shares for children’s and adult fiction and the lowest share for children’s DVDs. However, the response only partially summarises the charts: it gives little account of the membership proportions or the overall pattern in loans from 2007 to 2016. Some figures are misread or assigned to the wrong measure: 51 and 12 are percentages of members, not numbers of people who took loans, and the 2016 loan total is about 21,700, not 23,000. The 2007 figure is approximately 15,700, so 16,000 is a reasonable approximation. The overview is limited, and the response is 30 words below the required minimum. Include a fuller overview and accurate comparisons across all three displays.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic sequence: an introduction, an overview, and then details about loan totals and categories. This gives the reader some structure, and phrases such as “Overall” and “while” help signal relationships. However, the progression is not clear because information from different charts is mixed together: the sentence about 51 members and 12 older adults follows the loan-category discussion without explaining that these are membership percentages. The final sentence about two categories is also isolated. Use separate, purposeful paragraphs for the overview and the key details, and group related figures together. Clearer links between each chart and the comparisons being made would make the organisation easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “proportion,” “represented,” “categories,” and “percentage,” which helps communicate the subject. However, the range is limited and several phrases are imprecise or awkward, such as “number of loan,” “value of loan,” and “were took loan.” “Different age groups are mentioned in data” is vague and does not describe the chart clearly. There are also spelling errors, including “memebers” and “Children'.” Aim for precise chart language and accurate collocations: for example, describe the “share of loans” or the “number of loans,” and say that adults “accounted for” a proportion of members. Proofreading spelling and word forms will improve clarity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a few different sentence forms, including a comparison with “while” and a sentence beginning “in which,” but control is inconsistent. Errors occur in basic agreement and verb forms: “The graphs illustrates” should be “The graphs illustrate,” and “51 memebers were took loan” needs a correctly formed verb, such as “51% of members were adults.” There are also problems with articles, plurals, and sentence construction in “The lowest number of loan was in 2007.” Most sentences are simple, and the more complex attempts are not reliably accurate. Practise building clear subject–verb sentences and checking tense, agreement, and articles; this will help you express comparisons without obscuring the data.
