Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You cover all three visuals and include several relevant comparisons, such as the equal 38% shares for children’s and adult fiction and the largest membership group being adults aged 18–64. However, the response only partially reports the main features: it has no clear overall summary, and the loan trend is described with several inaccurate figures. For example, loans rose from about 15,700 in 2007 to 19,000 in 2008 and remained around that level in 2009, rather than falling to 17,000. The final trend is also left incomplete. Select the main patterns first, then report accurate approximate values and explain the overall rise across the period, including fluctuations.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has some organisation: it first discusses membership and loan categories, then turns to the yearly totals. This gives the reader a basic route through the information, and linking expressions such as “Furthermore” and “Continuing” show attempts to connect ideas. However, progression within the paragraphs is uneven, and some links are inaccurate or unclear. “While” introduces fragments or loosely connected statements, and the final sentence ends without completing the point about 2016. Group the information into clear sections, use a concise overview before the details, and connect comparisons directly—for example, contrast the two 38% categories in one sentence and describe the annual trend in chronological order.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some task-related vocabulary, including “loan categories,” “membership,” “increased,” and “decreased,” and you attempt to vary your wording. However, the range is limited by repeated or imprecise expressions, and several collocations make the meaning difficult to follow. Phrases such as “participated roughly,” “was very high,” and “came on it’s old value” are not natural ways to describe chart data. There are also spelling and word-form problems, including “Chafont,” “childrens,” and “slighlty.” Aim for precise reporting language such as “accounted for,” “stood at,” “rose to,” and “returned to,” and check spelling and apostrophes carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, but control is inconsistent, particularly in complex clauses. Errors in agreement and verb forms appear in examples such as “Adults … take membership” and “it was sharply went up.” Articles and sentence construction are also problematic in “in 2016’s loan categories was completely different,” while the opening sentence is a fragment and the final sentence is incomplete. These errors sometimes make relationships between figures hard to understand. Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use consistent past-tense forms for the historical data. For example: “The total rose to approximately 19,000 in 2008 and remained at that level in 2009.”
