Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You cover all three visuals and identify several key features: adults aged 18–64 form the largest membership group, fiction leads the loan categories, and loans are higher in 2016 than in 2007. Most category figures are reported accurately. However, the overview says there were “drastic changes” in loans, which overstates a series that generally rises with modest fluctuations. The final sentence mentions a “slight decline” without specifying the dip around 2012–13 or noting the subsequent recovery to a peak in 2016. Also, the least popular category is correctly implied to be children’s DVDs, but its 1% figure is omitted. A more precise overview and fuller description of the loan trend would make the response more complete and better supported.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for membership, loan categories, and the time series. Transitions such as “Regarding” and “Finally” help signal these sections, so the reader can follow the main topics. However, some linking is mechanical, and the overview’s “Meanwhile” does not clearly show the relationship between the points. The final paragraph also moves quickly from the start and end figures to an unexplained decline, leaving the trend’s sequence unclear. Improve progression by grouping related comparisons and using more precise links—for example, explain that loans rose overall, dipped after 2011, and then recovered. Check sentence boundaries, as the fragment beginning “Were children’s non-fiction” interrupts the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for describing charts, including “second-largest group,” “overall loans,” “ranked third,” and “represented,” which helps communicate comparisons. There is also some attempt at less common phrasing, such as “drastic changes” and “overall performance,” but these are not precise for the data: the loan totals fluctuate moderately, and “performance” is vague. Several spelling errors—“hightest,” “audults,” “represnt,” “Turninng,” and “decine”—are noticeable, while “participent” and “carrying” are awkward choices in context. These errors do not prevent understanding, but they limit accuracy and naturalness. Aim for consistent chart language and proofread spelling; use terms such as “share,” “accounted for,” and “fluctuated” where appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex forms, including the contrast in “Although there was a slight decline…” and the comparison introduced by “while.” The main information is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “adults aged 18-64 has” needs plural agreement, and “children’s fiction and adult fiction has” also requires a plural verb. “Children’s non-fiction” is introduced with the fragment “Were,” and “Although there was a slight decline…” is a dependent clause standing alone. There are also inconsistent sentence boundaries and punctuation, such as the lowercase “while” after a full stop. Work on subject–verb agreement, complete clause structure, and punctuation while retaining your attempts at varied sentences.
