Student answer (Band 6.0)

The given charts provide data about a public liberary in a town known as little chaltfort.

Overall, adults share the largest portion of the chart while adults of age 65 and over represent the smallest portion of the chart. Now in terms of total loans by catogery in 2016, children's fiction and adult fiction were most common borrowed book while adult audio books and young adults were least commonly borrowed. Furthermore, considering total number of loans from 2007 to 2016, highest number of loans were taken in 2016 while minimum number of loans were taken in 2007.

In 2016, the largest portion of chart constituted of adults aged 18 to 64(51) which is then followed by children and young adults , at 22 and 15. Whereas smallest portion represents the adults aged 65 and over(12). Regarding total loans by catogery, highest loan was taken for children's fiction(38%) and adult fiction(38%) whereas leat loan was taken for children's dvd's(1%).

Turning now to total number of loans taken from 2007 to 2016. The bar graph shows that total number of loans taken over the years has increased. The point to notice is that the maximum total number of loans were taken in 2016( approximately 22,000) while minimum total number of loans were taken in 2007(16,000), clearly demonstrating that number of loans taken has increased significantly despite facing a fluctuation from 2009 to 2013.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You cover all three visuals and provide a clear overview: adults aged 18–64 form the largest membership group, fiction accounts for the largest loan shares, and loans peak in 2016 after starting at their lowest in 2007. The figures you give for membership and the main loan categories are accurate, and the approximate totals are reasonable. This meets the task well, with some features reported more fully than others. In particular, the category summary omits adult non-fiction (13%) and several smaller categories, while the trend description gives only the endpoints and a broad statement about fluctuation. To strengthen the response further, include one or two intermediate trend values and describe the rise, dip, and recovery more precisely rather than saying loans increased “significantly.”

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs covering membership/categories and the loan trend. The reader can follow the main comparisons, and transitions such as “Furthermore” and “Turning now” help signal shifts. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, with repeated wording such as “total number of loans taken” and repeated statements that 2016 was the maximum and 2007 the minimum. Some links are also unclear: “while adults of age 65 and over represent the smallest portion” is followed by “Now in terms,” which makes the overview feel like a sequence of separate points. Group related information more tightly, use clearer references, and avoid restating the same endpoint comparison in both the overview and final paragraph.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to describe the visuals, including “largest portion,” “followed by,” “fluctuation,” and “approximately,” so the main information remains understandable. There is also some attempt to vary phrasing, for example “Turning now” and “clearly demonstrating.” However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “liberary,” “chaltfort,” “catogery,” and “leat.” Several expressions are also unnatural or imprecise: “most common borrowed book,” “highest loan was taken,” and “portion of chart constituted of adults.” These choices limit precision even when the intended meaning can be inferred. Use standard chart language such as “accounted for,” “the largest share,” and “the most/least popular loan categories,” and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including contrast clauses with “while” and a longer sentence beginning “The point to notice is that…”. Most ideas remain clear, and the response generally maintains past-tense reporting. Some grammatical errors persist, however. For example, “children's fiction and adult fiction were most common borrowed book” has a number and structure problem, and “highest number of loans were taken” does not use a natural grammatical pattern for describing totals. The sentence “adults aged 18 to 64(51)” also needs clearer punctuation and spacing around the figure. Aim for accurate subject–verb agreement and complete noun phrases, and use structures such as “loans reached approximately 22,000” to avoid awkward passive constructions.
