Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify relevant features, including the largest membership group (adults aged 18–64, at 51%), the smallest (those aged 65 and over, at 12%), and the equal 38% shares for adult and children’s fiction. You also note that loans generally rose over the period. However, the overview is limited and the trend is not fully accurate: loans fluctuate after 2010 rather than increasing steadily, and the total is about 21,700 in 2016, not simply somewhere within the chart’s range. The response also omits useful comparisons across the loan categories and gives little detail about the decade-long trend. It is 15 words below the required minimum of 150, which limits the opportunity to report the main features fully. Develop the overview and support it with a few accurate comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a basic structure: an introduction, an overview, and further details about membership, loan categories, and the trend. This helps the reader identify the main topics. However, progression between ideas is not always clear. For example, the second paragraph moves from the age profile to children’s DVDs and then to fiction shares without a clear organising principle. Linking words such as “Mainly,” “While,” and “Meanwhile” are used, but some connections feel mechanical or do not clearly show the relationship between the information. The final sentence repeats the general trend rather than adding a distinct concluding feature. Group the details by chart, use clearer references, and connect comparisons directly to the figures being discussed.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “proportion,” “total number of loans,” “category,” and “gradual growth,” so the reader can generally understand the subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which makes parts of the report awkward: “highest propotion,” “hight ratio,” and “decline of 1%” do not express the data precisely. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “liberary,” “steadly,” and “proporton.” Aim for accurate, conventional chart language such as “accounted for,” “share,” and “fluctuated,” and check spelling carefully. More precise vocabulary would help distinguish membership percentages from loan-category shares.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast with “While” and a time phrase beginning “from 2007 to 2016.” However, errors in sentence structure and agreement occur often enough to affect clarity. For example, “The pie chart and graph illustrates” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “children’s fiction and adult fiction falls” uses an incorrect verb form for a plural subject. The sentence beginning “Mainly, there was lowest number” is also awkwardly constructed, and the clause about DVDs is not clearly connected to the following sentence. Use complete, direct sentences, check singular and plural agreement, and make sure each comparison has a clear subject and verb. This will make your data descriptions easier to follow.
