Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify several relevant headline features: adults made up more than half of members, children’s fiction was a major loan category, and loan totals were higher at the end of the period than at the start. However, the response is only a brief opening and stops at “Firstly,” so it does not summarise the charts sufficiently or report supporting figures and comparisons. The trend is also described as having “steadily increased,” although loans fluctuated after 2011 rather than rising continuously. The claim that adult audio books were borrowed least is not quite accurate: children’s DVDs had the smallest share. The required minimum of 150 words is not met. Develop the overview and add accurate details from all three charts.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an introductory sentence is followed by an overview beginning with “Overall.” This gives the reader a recognisable starting structure, and “Whilst” signals a contrast between features. However, the response ends with the isolated fragment “Firstly,” and provides no developed body paragraphs or logical progression through the charts. The overview also combines several points in one sentence, making the relationships between them less clear. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and the key data, then group related comparisons and connect them with accurate linking phrases. This would create a clearer progression rather than leaving the reader with an unfinished outline.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The response uses some task-relevant vocabulary, including “members,” “loans,” “accounted for,” and “throughout the period,” so the main subject is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several choices are awkward or imprecise, such as “adults people,” “loans taken,” and “most for the Children’s fiction.” “Government sector library” is also an unsupported and unnatural description of the library. The spelling error in “governmnet” further reduces accuracy. Aim for precise chart language and natural collocations, for example, “library members,” “loans of children’s fiction,” and “the largest share.” A wider set of terms for proportions and trends would also help you describe the data more flexibly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a complex sentence with “Whilst,” and the opening overview communicates a basic comparison. However, grammatical control is uneven. In “The charts below illustrates,” the plural subject requires “illustrate.” “Adults people accounted” has an incorrect noun construction, while “the number of loans have” has a subject–verb agreement error; “the number” takes “has.” The sentence beginning “Whilst” is also left as a dependent clause without a clear main clause, and the final “Firstly,” is incomplete. Most of the response relies on short, simple constructions, with little accurate variety. Practise complete sentences, agreement, and combining comparisons into controlled complex sentences before adding more detail.
