Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the three chart topics and note two relevant features: adults aged 18–64 form the largest membership group, and children’s and adult fiction each account for 38% of loans. However, the overview is partly inaccurate: children are not the largest member group; adults aged 18–64 are. The loan figures also show an overall rise from about 15,700 in 2007 to 21,700 in 2016, despite fluctuations, which you do not report. Several details are incomplete or unclear, including the other membership proportions and the category shares. The response is also 4 words below the 150-word minimum; the 10 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. Add accurate key comparisons and a clearer summary of the trend.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic structure, moving from an introduction and overview to details about membership, loan categories and yearly loans. This gives the reader some sense of how the charts are being discussed. However, progression is limited: the final paragraph repeats that loans fluctuated without giving the yearly trend, and the overview’s points are not developed in a clear sequence. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “While,” “Whereas” and “Secondly” are attempted, but some are used awkwardly or do not connect complete ideas effectively. For example, “While…” and “Whereas…” create fragments rather than clear comparisons. Organise the body into distinct, focused comparisons and use linking words only where they clarify the relationship between figures.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-related vocabulary, including “library members,” “total loan by category,” “fluctuated” and “approximately,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “four contributes,” “second rank,” “remained same” and “very smaller.” These expressions make some comparisons difficult to interpret. Spelling errors, including “infromation,” “followind,” “eigth” and “stricking,” are also noticeable and reduce clarity. Aim for precise chart language and check spelling carefully. Useful alternatives include “categories,” “the second-largest group,” “accounted for the same proportion,” and “the smallest share.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a general overview and clauses beginning with “While” and “Whereas.” However, the complex structures are often incomplete or faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make parts of the response difficult to follow. For example, “The charts provides… in which describes” has subject–verb agreement and clause-structure problems, while “the age of library had four contributes” does not form a clear grammatical statement. There are also errors in articles, plurals and verb forms, as in “the children was” and “had remained same.” Use shorter, complete sentences first, then add comparisons with correctly formed clauses. Check agreement and articles in each sentence.
