Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the charts’ general subject and include some relevant figures, such as children’s membership at 22 and children’s fiction at 38%. However, the response only partially summarises the data and omits important features, including the adult age group’s 51% share, the adult-loan categories, and the overall pattern in loans across the decade. Several comparisons are inaccurate: the largest membership group is adults aged 18–64, not “16-84,” and loans did not peak in 2011; they reached their highest level in 2016. The claim that 2010 and 2012 were equal is also incorrect. The response is 141 words, below the required 150. Select the main trends accurately and support them with clear comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction to membership and loan details, then a conclusion. This gives the reader some sense of organisation. However, progression within the paragraphs is limited: the membership figures, loan-category shares and decade-long trend are not clearly separated or systematically compared. Linking phrases such as “Furthermore,” “Moving towards,” and “Moreover” are used, but they do not always show the relationship between the information, and the conclusion largely repeats the introduction. Improve the sequence by grouping each chart’s key features, using comparisons to connect related figures, and ensuring each paragraph develops one clear focus.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-related vocabulary, including “members,” “age group,” “fiction,” and “loans,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several expressions are imprecise or unnatural, such as “loans applied,” “least seen,” and “loan value incline.” These choices sometimes make the intended meaning less clear. There are also spelling and form issues, including “differet,” “non fiction,” and the inconsistent capitalisation of “little chalfont.” Aim for accurate chart language such as “accounted for,” “share,” “rose,” and “the lowest figure,” and use precise category labels. This would make the description clearer without requiring unnecessarily complex vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a few longer structures, for example, “Whereas, the number of children members was 22,” and “Furthermore, 6% can be seen in children’s non fiction.” However, most sentences rely on simple patterns, and errors occur frequently enough to affect clarity. Examples include “the number of members age is given,” “the highest number of members are,” and “the charts shows,” where sentence structure or subject–verb agreement is faulty. The comparison beginning “as compare to” is also not grammatically formed, and punctuation after “Whereas” is awkward. Practise building accurate sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement, articles and comparison structures before adding more complex clauses.
