Student answer (Band 6.0)
The chart below compares information about a public library in a township called little chalfont.
Overall, the largest proportion of members comprises are adult between the age of 18 to 64. Children and adult fiction has the major popularity among the readers and 2016 recorded the maximum loan from the members.
In 2016, 51% of the total library members are adult, followed by child with 22%. Young adult and adult over 65 comprises of 15 and 12 % respectively. From 2007 to 2016, demand for library loans seems be increasing marginally every year apart from 2012 and 2
Moreover, 2016 seems to have the highest count of loan which is more than 20,000. Out of which the largest demand is for adult's fiction and children's fiction. Followed by adult non fiction, children non fiction with 13 and 6 % respectively. Rest of the categories has marginal difference with 1 and 2% respectively.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You cover the three visuals and identify several important features: adults aged 18–64 form the largest membership group, fiction accounts for the largest loan shares, and loans peak in 2016. The figures for membership and category shares are mostly accurate. Your overview also attempts to summarise the main patterns, which is a strength. However, the trend description is incomplete and partly inaccurate: loans did not rise every year, and the unfinished phrase “apart from 2012 and 2” leaves the fluctuations unclear. The chart shows an overall rise from about 15,700 in 2007 to 21,700 in 2016, with several dips and recoveries. More precise reporting of this pattern and clearer comparisons would make the response more fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction and overview to membership figures and then loan categories. This gives the reader a coherent overall arrangement. Some linking is also attempted through “Overall,” “Moreover,” and “Followed by.” However, progression is weakened by the incomplete sentence ending “apart from 2012 and 2,” which interrupts the discussion of the loan trend. The reference “Out of which” is also unclear because it does not smoothly connect the total loan figure to the category percentages. Use complete sentences and organise the body paragraphs by chart, with clear links between each comparison, to make cohesion less mechanical and references easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for describing charts, including “largest proportion,” “demand,” “recorded,” and “categories.” These choices help communicate the main comparisons, and the reader can generally understand your intended meaning. Some word combinations are unnatural or imprecise, however: “major popularity” is not a natural way to describe the largest loan shares, and “marginal difference” does not accurately describe categories with different percentages. “Demand” is also repeated where “number of loans” or “share” would be more precise. Aim for standard chart language such as “accounted for,” “rose,” “fell,” and “remained relatively stable,” choosing terms that match the data rather than relying on broad descriptions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex forms, including the overview sentence and comparisons using “followed by.” However, some grammatical errors affect clarity. For example, “the largest proportion of members comprises are adult” combines incompatible verb forms, while “Young adult and adult over 65 comprises of 15 and 12%” has problems with agreement and sentence construction. The trend sentence is also incomplete, ending “apart from 2012 and 2.” Articles, plurals, and verb forms need more consistent control. Practise writing complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, such as “Adults aged 18–64 made up 51% of members,” and check agreement and sentence endings before finishing.
