Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the three subjects of the visuals and include some relevant figures, such as the 38% shares for adult and children’s fiction and the approximate loan total in 2007. However, the response only partly reports the main features. The age figures are confused: adults aged 18–64 make up 51%, while children account for 22% and young adults 15%; “55%” and the claim that adults are “over aged” do not accurately describe these data. The loan trend is also under-reported: loans generally rose from about 15,700 to 21,700, with a dip after 2011 and a later recovery. Saying only that 2011 and 2016 were higher leaves the overall pattern unclear. Include a concise overview and compare the key categories and trend accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic structure: an introduction followed by two paragraphs that broadly separate the membership information from loan categories and totals. This gives the reader some sense of organisation. However, progression within the paragraphs is difficult to follow, and the repeated openings “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” do not clearly express the relationships between the different visuals. References such as “it” and “it represent” are also unclear, so readers may not know whether you mean the chart, the library, or a category. Group the age data together, then report the loan-category shares, and finish with the time trend. Use clear links such as “Regarding membership” and “Over the period” rather than relying on repeated contrast markers.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-related vocabulary, including “library members,” “loan categories,” “adult fiction,” and “non-fiction,” which helps communicate the topic. However, the range is limited and several word choices or combinations are inaccurate or unnatural, sometimes making the meaning difficult to interpret. For example, “55% portion are used by adult and over aged” does not clearly describe the membership proportions, and “borrowed 38% from library” is not a natural way to report a share of loans. “Higher amount of loan” is also imprecise. Aim for standard chart-reporting expressions such as “accounted for,” “made up,” “the proportion of,” and “the total number of loans.” Check that each term describes the data accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response relies mainly on simple sentence patterns, with limited evidence of controlled complex structures. Errors occur frequently in verb agreement and sentence construction: “it show” should be “it shows,” and “The members of adult age is” needs a plural subject and a clearer grammatical structure. The phrase “55% portion are used” also has agreement problems, while “young adults and children from 13 to 17 used” does not form a clear sentence. Articles and prepositions are sometimes missing or awkward, as in “about public library” and “used by adult.” These errors can make the data relationships hard to understand. Practise accurate comparative sentences, for example, “Adults aged 18–64 accounted for 51% of members, compared with 22% for children.”
