Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

The response covers all three visuals and gives a clear overview: adults form the largest membership group, fiction leads borrowing, and loans rise overall despite fluctuations. The key figures are generally accurate, including the equal 38% shares for children’s and adult fiction, and the low point in 2007 followed by a peak in 2016. The account also selects useful details from the decade-long trend rather than listing every year. To make the summary more fully developed, clarify that the 51% figure refers specifically to adults aged 18–64, and describe the loan trend with a little more precision: after reaching about 21,000 in 2011, it fluctuated before ending at roughly 21,700. These refinements would make the comparisons more exact.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response is organised in a clear sequence: an introduction, an overview, details about membership and loan categories, and then the time-series chart. This gives the reader a logical route through the three visuals. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “By contrast,” and “Turning to the bar chart” help signal shifts and comparisons. Some connections are less smooth, however. The opening sentence beginning “While bar chart” is a fragment, and the transition from membership figures to loan categories within the same paragraph is abrupt. The final paragraph is easy to follow, but “After remaining fairly stable” could specify the period more clearly. More controlled sentence boundaries and slightly clearer transitions between chart topics would strengthen the progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The response uses an adequate range of task-related vocabulary, including “proportion,” “categories,” “approximately,” “climbed sharply,” “dipped slightly,” and “recovering steadily.” These choices help describe both the charts and the overall trend. However, spelling and word-choice errors sometimes reduce precision: “catergory,” “numbr,” “libarary,” and “yound” are misspelled, while “large number of proportion” and “were hold the same percentage” are unnatural combinations. “Borrowed very rarely” also overstates what the small percentages show; “accounted for a small share” would be more precise. Aim to use accurate collocations for proportions and loans, and proofread spelling carefully. The meaning remains understandable, but greater control would make the description more fluent and exact.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

There is some variety in sentence structure, including a complex contrast with “While” and a sequence of clauses describing changes over time. The final paragraph is generally controlled, and the reader can follow the main comparisons. However, some errors in sentence formation and grammar remain. “While bar chart shows” lacks an article and does not form a complete independent sentence; “children and adult fiction were hold” has an incorrect passive construction; and “Adult0 65 and over formed the formed” contains a duplicated verb phrase. There are also problems with articles and agreement in phrases such as “majority of the library members” and “young adults was 15%.” Use complete sentences, check singular and plural agreement, and review verb forms and articles. These corrections would improve accuracy while preserving the range already attempted.
