Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main age-group feature accurately: adults aged 18–64 make up the largest share (51%), while those aged 65 and over are the smallest group (12%). You also correctly note that children’s and adult fiction are the largest loan categories, at 38% each, and children’s DVDs are the smallest at 1%. The overview is relevant, but it does not summarise the decade-long trend in total loans. The graph shows an overall rise from about 15,700 in 2007 to 21,700 in 2016, with fluctuations, rather than a simple steady increase. Some details are also imprecise: 2007 is about 15,700, not 15,000, and the 2013 decline is gradual rather than sudden. Include the key trend and more precise comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the membership/category information and the loan trend. This makes the main information easy to locate. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes weakened by mechanical or awkward linking. For example, “While” and “Whereas” begin fragments or loosely connected statements, and “However” does not establish a clear contrast in the final paragraph. The overview also leaves the time-series chart out, so the organisation does not give all three visuals balanced coverage. Group the two pie-chart findings together, then describe the loan trend chronologically, using links such as “after peaking” or “following a decline” to show relationships more precisely.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant task vocabulary, including “proportion,” “categories,” “total number of loans,” and “increased,” so the reader can understand the subject. However, some word choices and collocations are unnatural or imprecise, such as “highest usage of library members,” “more number of loans,” and “the least percentage of loan.” Repetition of “loans” and “library” also limits flexibility. Use standard chart-reporting phrases such as “accounted for the largest share,” “recorded the highest number,” and “the smallest proportion.” Check spelling and forms too: “representating” is incorrect, and “children’s” needs an apostrophe when referring to the category. These refinements would make the description more precise and natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, and the main comparisons are generally understandable. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly in sentence boundaries and clause construction. For instance, “While the bar chart illustrates…” is not a complete sentence when separated from the opening sentence, and “While, there was a sudden downfall in 2013” uses a subordinate conjunction without a main clause. There are also missing articles and awkward patterns in “the people aged 18-64 had the largest proportion” and “the number of loans increased nearly more than 21,000.” Use complete clauses, for example, “The number rose to just over 21,000,” and check punctuation around introductory clauses. More accurate complex sentences would improve control.
