Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify several relevant headline features: adult fiction and children’s fiction each account for 38% of loans, children’s DVDs are the smallest category at 1%, and adults aged 18–64 form the largest membership group at 51%. You also correctly describe the overall rise in loans from 2007 to 2016, with the lowest figure at the start and the highest at the end. However, the report is only partially developed: it omits the middle-year fluctuations and gives little information about the other loan categories or age groups. The statement that the charts show the “highest and lowest percentage in both” is unclear, and the overview does not clearly summarise the main patterns across all three visuals. Include a more complete overview and select a few supporting comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic sequence, moving from the loan categories to the trend graph and then to membership ages. Phrases such as “first of all,” “moreover,” and “so overall” signal some organisation. However, the progression is not consistently clear: the opening sentence is difficult to follow, and the final paragraph combines a general conclusion with a membership statistic without a clear link. Several transitions are mechanical, while references such as “this chart” and “both of chart and graph” do not make it clear which visual or data set is meant. Use separate, purposeful paragraphs for the overview and key details, and connect comparisons explicitly rather than relying on repeated sequencing phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “percentage,” “total number of loans,” “highest,” and “lowest,” so the reader can recognise the subject and some comparisons. However, the range is limited and several phrases are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “total who loans the books,” “highest value show,” and “more less.” Repetition of “show” and “total” also makes the report less precise. Aim to use standard chart language and accurate collocations, for example, “accounted for,” “the figure rose,” and “the largest proportion.” Check spelling and word forms, including “children’s” and “furthermore.” These changes would make the information easier to understand and more appropriate for an academic report.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts to combine ideas using clauses and linking words, but sentence structures are limited and errors occur frequently. For example, “The chart illustrate” has subject–verb disagreement, while “there is show the total number” uses an incorrect verb construction. Articles, plurals, and sentence boundaries are also problematic: “in a town.In this chart” needs spacing and clearer punctuation, and “16000loans” lacks a space. The final sentence, “its also show maximum 51%adults,” is difficult to interpret because the clause structure and punctuation are incomplete. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then add controlled comparisons, such as “Loans rose from about 16,000 in 2007 to nearly 22,000 in 2016.”
