The chart illustrates data about Little Chalfont's public library.

Overall, it is clear that fictions are popular between children and adults. Also they rarely loan non-fiction books. People loan adults audio books and children DVDs the less.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify some accurate features of the 2016 loans table, including the two fiction categories at 38% and children’s DVDs as the smallest category at 1%. However, the response addresses only a small part of the task: it omits the age profile of members and gives almost no account of the loan trend from 2007 to 2016. The statement that people “rarely loan non-fiction books” is also too broad, since adult non-fiction accounts for 13%, while children’s non-fiction is 6%. The final figure for 2007 is broadly accurate, but no later years are compared. The response is 49 words below the required minimum, which contributes to the limited coverage. Include an overview and select key comparisons from all three visuals.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic, understandable structure: an opening, a brief overview, details about the category percentages, and a final sentence about 2007. Paragraphing helps separate the main points, and phrases such as “The next two options” signal a comparison. However, progression is limited because the final sentence introduces the time-series chart without developing it or linking it to the earlier discussion. The overview also repeats information that is then stated again in the detail paragraph. To make the organisation more coherent, group information by visual, use a paragraph for membership and loan categories, and another for the trend over time, with clear transitions between them.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for describing the charts, including “popular,” “loaned,” “percent,” and “most unpopular,” so the main subject is generally clear. There is some variation in how you describe rankings, such as “most popular” and “next two options.” However, several choices are imprecise or awkward: “fictions” is not the natural plural here, “loan adults audio books” is unclear, and “the less” does not express the intended meaning correctly. Repetition of “popular” and “loan” also limits the range. Use standard chart language such as “accounted for,” “made up,” and “the smallest share,” and distinguish clearly between loan categories and the people borrowing them.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

Most of your sentences are short and their basic meaning can be understood, as in “The most popular books are Children’s fiction and Adult fiction.” You also attempt a more complex construction with “it is clear that,” showing some range beyond simple statements. However, the response relies heavily on simple sentence patterns, and some structures are inaccurate: “People loan adults audio books and children DVDs the less” has unclear word order and an incorrect comparative form. “In 2007 number of loans was nearly 16000” is missing an article before “number.” Use a wider mix of accurate sentence forms, and check articles, word order, and comparative structures when describing rankings.
