Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify some relevant features, including that adults aged 18–64 form the largest membership group and that children’s DVDs account for the smallest loan share. However, the response addresses the task only minimally: it gives no figures, barely reports the loan-category data, and does not describe the decade-long trend in total loans. The final sentence is cut off at “the most amount of lo…”, leaving the third chart unreported. The overview also incorrectly says adults aged 65 and over are the minority; young adults are the smallest membership group (15%, compared with 12% for older adults, so older adults are not the smallest). The response is also well below the required 150 words. To improve, complete the summary and select key figures and trends from all three charts.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening sentence introduces the charts, followed by an overview signalled by “Overall” and “Lastly.” These markers show an awareness of how to group information. However, the response is too incomplete to establish a clear progression across the three visuals, and the final clause breaks off, leaving the reader without a finished point. The overview moves between membership, loan categories and total loans without explaining their relationships or developing each point. Use separate, complete paragraphs—for example, an overview followed by details on membership and loan categories, then the trend in total loans—and connect comparisons clearly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, such as “library members,” “adults,” “fiction,” and “loan category,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several phrases are awkward or imprecise, including “the most amount of loan,” “constitutes of,” and “in term of lowest loan category.” The spelling of “little chafelton” also does not reproduce the place name accurately. These choices make parts of the summary less clear and natural. Aim for concise chart language such as “accounted for,” “the largest share,” and “the smallest proportion,” and use the exact labels from the visuals when naming groups and categories.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response includes some complete simple sentences, such as “The charts below illustrate the information about a library,” and attempts to link ideas with “while.” However, the range is narrow, and errors in sentence construction and grammatical patterns are frequent enough to make the text awkward. For example, “adults from age of 18-64” is missing an article and uses an incomplete age phrase; “the most amount of loan constitutes of” has an incorrect construction; and “children's DVD are” has a singular/plural agreement problem. The final sentence is unfinished, so it cannot communicate a complete idea. Practise accurate comparisons and complete sentences, checking articles, agreement, and verb patterns before writing.
