Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify relevant features from all three visuals, including the largest membership group (adults aged 18–64), the equal 38% shares for children’s and adult fiction, and the overall rise in loans by 2016. However, the response does not give a clear overview that brings the main patterns together, and some comparisons are inaccurate or unclear. For example, adults aged 65 and over were the smallest membership group at 12%, not adults generally; the graph’s 2010 and 2012 figures were not the same; and loans did not increase continuously after 2013, since they dipped in 2013 before rising. Select the key trends accurately and summarise them explicitly before giving supporting figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response is arranged in a generally sensible order: membership, loan categories, and then the decade-long trend. This makes the different visuals identifiable, and phrases such as “The graph illustrates” help signal a change of focus. However, the information within the paragraphs is often crowded into long, loosely connected sentences, and the sequence of figures in the final section is difficult to follow. Repeated use of “with” and “had” does not clearly show whether figures are being compared or contrasted. Use separate sentences for the main trend and notable fluctuations, and add clear links such as “by contrast,” “while,” and “after a decline” to make relationships explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant vocabulary for describing charts, including “members,” “category of loans,” “lowest,” and “increasing.” These choices make the subject matter clear overall. However, the range is limited and several expressions are imprecise or awkward, such as “the portion and percentage,” “had the less,” and “had 19000 number of loans.” Spelling errors, including “Childens” and “cotinuously,” also reduce accuracy. Aim for standard chart-reporting collocations and precise terms: describe membership “proportions,” say a group “accounted for” a share, and report that loans “stood at” a figure. Check spelling and avoid repeating the same general verbs when more exact alternatives are available.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some longer sentence forms, and the reader can usually identify the figures and groups being discussed. However, the response relies heavily on simple clauses joined together, and attempts at more complex structures are often faulty. For example, “Adults were more than half of the members …, children having 22%” lacks a clear grammatical connection between the clauses, while “with having 2008 and 2009 having same number” is difficult to parse. There are also errors in articles, agreement, and punctuation, such as “the category of loans” and missing spaces after full stops. Build clearer sentences with a subject and verb for each comparison, and check articles, plural forms, and sentence boundaries.
