Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the three visuals and give a relevant overview, noting that adults form the largest membership group and that fiction leads the loan categories. Several figures are accurate, including the 51% share for adults aged 18–64 and the 38% shares for both fiction categories. However, some key details are misreported: children and young adults total 37%, not 34%, and the 65-and-over group is 12%, not 15%. The loans chart is also described too vaguely: 2008 and 2009 are about 19,000, while 2013 is about 19,600, so these years are not the same. Develop the trend more clearly, including the overall rise from 2007 to 2016 and the fluctuations in between, and distinguish the pie chart from the table accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs that group the membership and category data before discussing loans. This gives the reader a coherent overall route through the visuals. However, the organisation becomes less clear in the final paragraph, where the table is said to show years and loan totals, although those figures belong to the line chart. Some linking phrases, such as “On the one hand” and “On the other hand,” feel mechanical rather than showing a precise relationship between the information. The overview also combines several points in a long sentence. Use clearer topic sentences and refer consistently to each visual; then group the loan trend into its early rise, later fluctuations, and final high.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “proportion,” “category,” “highest,” and “least,” and the reader can generally understand the comparisons you intend. However, the range and control are limited by repeated or imprecise expressions such as “total loans,” “highest,” and “same number of loans.” Several word choices and forms are inaccurate, for example “loan period” for the year with the lowest total, “precentage,” and “demonstart.” “Pie chart address” and “table chart” are also unnatural descriptions. Aim for more precise reporting language, such as “accounted for,” “peaked at,” “declined,” and “remained broadly stable,” while checking spelling and collocations. This would make the account more concise and accurate without requiring overly complex vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, using structures such as “while” and “whereas” to compare information. Meaning is usually recoverable, but grammatical errors occur across the response and sometimes make relationships difficult to follow. For example, “The given mixed chart illustrate” has subject–verb disagreement, while “children’s fiction and adult fiction was the highest” needs plural agreement and a more suitable construction. The sentence beginning “in the year 2007 count as least loan period” lacks a clear grammatical subject and verb pattern. Articles, plurals, and sentence boundaries also need attention. Practise building accurate comparison sentences first, then add subordinate clauses; check that each sentence has a clear subject and correctly matched verb.
