Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main features across all three visuals: adults aged 18–64 are the largest membership group, fiction categories lead loans, and borrowing rises from 2007 before remaining broadly high. However, some figures are misreported: adult non-fiction is 13%, not 6%, and the 6% belongs to children’s non-fiction. You also omit the children’s and young-adult membership figures and give only a broad account of the loan trend, missing the later fluctuations and the 2016 peak. The overview is relevant but its claim that loans “stay constant” oversimplifies the data. The response is three words below the required minimum. Include more accurate comparisons and a fuller summary of the trend.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a generally understandable order: it describes the membership chart, the loan categories, the time series, and then gives an overall summary. Paragraph breaks help distinguish the visuals, and phrases such as “The other chart” and “Overall” signal transitions. However, the progression is somewhat list-like, with repeated openings such as “The chart shows” and “The … chart shows.” Some links between details are abrupt, and the final overview repeats points already made rather than synthesising the key comparisons. Improve cohesion by grouping related figures into fuller comparisons and using clearer references—for example, contrast the two 38% fiction categories with the much smaller loan shares, then connect the trend’s early rise to its later fluctuations.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the basic information, using relevant terms such as “members,” “total loans,” “category,” “fiction,” and “non-fiction.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate or awkward, which makes the report less precise. Examples include “higgest group,” “loan are about,” “it go up,” and “the total loas.” “Books” is also added to “Young adults” even though the chart labels this category simply as young adults. Repetition of “most” and “high” limits variety. Aim for accurate chart language such as “accounted for,” “rose,” “fluctuated,” and “remained relatively stable,” while checking spelling and using category labels exactly as shown.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
Most sentences use simple subject–verb patterns, and the reader can generally follow the intended comparisons. There are frequent errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries, however. For example, “In 2008, it go up” needs a past-tense verb, while “loan are about 15500” has a number-agreement problem. In “Young adults books, children DVDs, and adult audio books is very low,” the plural list requires a plural verb and clearer sentence construction. Missing spaces after full stops also affect punctuation. You attempt a longer sentence with “but,” but the overall range remains limited. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and plural structures, then combine simple sentences with controlled comparisons such as “whereas” or “while.”
