Student answer (Band 6.5)

The given illustration includes one pie chart, one table and one bar graph which give information about the library called Little Chalfont: The pie chart illustrate demographic age that were the member of library in 2016, table compares the proportion of loan by various catogories in 2016 while graph depicts total number of loans from 2007 to 2016.

Overall, it is evident that in little Chalfiont library highest number of members were adults (16-64) while adults (65 and over ) were lowest and the categories that were borrowed most were children's and adult fiction which were both same followed by adult non-fiction in 2016. Furthermore, total number of loans keep fluctating but still constant at upward trends.

The number of adults (18-64) share largest proportion around 51% while second position were by children accounting 22% of total share. In contrast, young adults (13-17) and adults 65 and over were around 15% and 12% respectively.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

You cover all three visuals and provide a clear overview: adults aged 18–64 form the largest membership group, fiction leads the borrowing categories, and loans generally rise over the period. The key comparisons are supported with relevant figures, including the two 38% fiction shares and the 51% adult membership share. Most reporting is accurate, but the final figure is overstated: the chart ends at about 21,700, not 22,500. The description of the loan trend is also somewhat general; it would be stronger to identify the rise to around 21,000 in 2011, the subsequent dip, and the recovery to a new high in 2016. These are small limitations in an otherwise well-focused summary.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response is organised effectively into an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for membership, borrowing categories, and loan totals. This gives the reader a clear progression through the visuals, and linking expressions such as “In contrast,” “Furthermore,” and “Regarding” help signal relationships between points. The overview also brings together the main comparisons rather than simply listing data. To make the organisation more polished, avoid repeating the same trend description in the overview and final paragraph without adding detail. Some transitions feel formulaic, and the final paragraph could connect the 2013 decline more precisely to the later recovery. Overall, the structure is clear and the information is easy to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of task-related vocabulary, including “proportion,” “accounting for,” “categories,” “fiction,” and “upward trend.” These terms allow you to describe both the charts and the comparisons clearly. There are, however, several inaccurate or awkward choices that reduce precision: “demographic age” is not a natural description of the membership chart, “share largest proportion” is an awkward collocation, and “constant growth” does not accurately convey the fluctuations shown. Spelling errors such as “catogories,” “Chalfiont,” and “fluctating” also affect the overall impression. Aim for precise, conventional chart language and check spelling, especially in key labels and trend descriptions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “while,” “although,” and “which.” The meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “The pie chart illustrate” needs subject–verb agreement, while “the categories that were borrowed most were” has an awkward passive construction. In “The number of adults … share largest proportion,” the sentence structure and article use are faulty; “adults … accounted for the largest proportion” would be clearer. There are also tense and agreement problems in “total number of loans keep fluctating” and “there were fall.” Work on consistent past-tense reporting, agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries to make your varied structures more accurate.
