Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify several important features, including the dominance of adult and children’s fiction in the 2016 loan categories and the rise in total loans from 2007. However, the overview is incomplete: it does not summarise the overall pattern across the decade, and the final account of the line graph stops mid-sentence at “Then increased again to R”. There are also factual inaccuracies: adults aged 65 and over are 12% of members, not a stated share of the population, and adult audio books account for 2%, not “25”. The description of the loan trend also misses the final rise to about 21,700. Cover all three visuals accurately and give a complete overview of the main patterns.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph on membership and loan categories, and one on total loans. This gives the reader some sense of how the information is grouped. However, progression is weakened because the overview focuses only on loan categories, while the final paragraph ends abruptly and leaves the decade-long trend unfinished. Some links are also unclear or repetitive, such as “However” before the children’s figures, where the contrast is not clearly established, and repeated use of “then”. Organise the details into clearer comparisons and use transitions to show changes over time; ensure each paragraph develops a complete point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant chart vocabulary such as “percentage of loans”, “members”, “increased” and “falling”, and you distinguish fiction, non-fiction and DVDs. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “the use of public library by individuals” is awkward, “occupied 12% of the population library members” is unclear, and “children’s DVDs is the least loaned library material” is not natural phrasing. Spelling errors such as “ocuupied”, “toal”, “untill” and “incread” also reduce accuracy. Use precise terms such as “share of members” and “accounted for” when reporting proportions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some complex structures, including the contrast beginning “While children’s DVDs…” and the sentence comparing adult membership with loan categories. However, control is inconsistent, and errors in agreement, tense and sentence construction occur frequently enough to make parts of the response difficult to read. For example, “children’s DVDs is” should use a plural verb, “These adults accounts” has incorrect subject–verb agreement, and “In year 2007 … was at around” is an awkwardly formed clause. The final sentence is incomplete, ending with “Then increased again to R”. Practise complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and keep tense consistent when describing the chart’s past data.
