Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You cover all three visuals and identify several important features: adults aged 18–64 form the largest membership group, fiction accounts for the largest loan shares, and loans rise overall from 2007 to 2016. The figures you give for the age groups and loan categories are broadly consistent with the data, and the opening and closing loan totals are close to the chart. However, the overview is not fully accurate: 2007 is the lowest point, but the peak is in 2016, and the loan trend includes fluctuations rather than a steady rise. You also omit the near-equal fiction shares and give little detail about changes between years. Make the overview more precise and select a few key comparisons to support it.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and separate paragraphs for the membership/category figures and the loan trend. This gives the reader a basic route through the information. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear, and the overview repeats points that are developed again later. Linking is limited and occasionally awkward: “Furthermore” does not clearly connect the two observations that follow, while “Globally” is not an effective way to introduce chart details. The final paragraph moves from 2007 to 2008 and then 2016 without describing the intervening fluctuations. Grouping related comparisons more deliberately and using clear references such as “by contrast” or “over the period” would improve cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “total number of loans,” “loan category,” “age members” and “percent,” so the topic is generally clear. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repeated or used unnaturally, such as “highest age members,” “least age member” and “total loans were taken by the Public.” Some word choices make the meaning less precise: “century” does not fit the comparison between years, and “reaches to is peak” is not a natural expression. Aim for concise, conventional reporting language and vary verbs such as “accounted for,” “represented” and “stood at.” Check word forms and collocations as well as spelling and capitalisation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and the main comparisons can usually be understood. However, control is inconsistent, particularly in sentence boundaries, agreement, articles and verb forms. For example, the opening joins two clauses with a comma in “Little Chalfont, While bar chart…,” and “Children's fiction and Adult fiction was” has a plural subject with a singular verb. Phrases such as “adults were highest age members” and “total number of loans reaches to is peak” also show problems with sentence construction. Use a wider range of accurately controlled structures, and check each sentence for a clear subject and verb, correct agreement, and appropriate punctuation.
