Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You cover all three visuals and identify several important features: adults form the largest membership group, fiction accounts for the largest loan shares, and 2007 has the lowest annual total. You also correctly note that children’s and adult fiction each represent 38%, and that children’s DVDs are the smallest category at 1%. However, some key information is incomplete or inaccurate. The membership figures are not reported, and “half” for adults is imprecise: adults aged 18–64 make up 51%, while adults aged 65 and over are a separate group. The trend description is also vague, and “Only 16,000 loans were issued in those years” incorrectly suggests this applies across the period. Include the main changes and approximate totals more clearly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs describing the charts. This helps the reader understand which visual is being discussed, and transitions such as “Overall” and “turning to” provide some signposting. However, progression is weakened by repetition: the overview and body both repeat the highest and lowest loan categories, while the final paragraph shifts between the table and bar chart. Some linking is mechanical, and references such as “those years” are unclear. Organise the body into a paragraph on membership and loan categories, followed by one on the decade-long trend, and use comparisons to connect details rather than repeating them.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for describing charts, including “highest,” “lowest,” “proportion,” “fluctuated,” and “issued.” This gives you a workable range for the task, and the main meaning is generally understandable. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or repetitive: “three different chart,” “table chart,” “remaining half part,” and “the lowest percentages” do not sound natural in this context. “Books were issued” is also not an accurate description of loans. Use precise terms such as “membership,” “loan share,” and “the number of loans,” and vary repeated phrases like “highest loans.” Check spelling and capitalisation in names and category labels, including “Little Chalfont” and “non-fiction.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, for example, “The highest loans were issued by children's fiction and adult fiction, which is same 38%.” The overall message can usually be followed, but some errors in agreement, articles, and sentence construction reduce accuracy. In the opening, “The given three different chart illustrates” has a plural subject with a singular verb; “the three charts illustrate” would be correct. In “which is same 38%,” the comparison needs a clearer grammatical form, such as “both accounted for 38%.” There are also sentence-boundary and punctuation issues, including the lowercase “turning” after a full stop. Aim for consistently complete sentences and check articles and verb agreement.
