Student answer (Band 5.5)

The pie chart compares the age of the members of the library, while the table illutrates the percentage of the loan taken against each category in 2016. However, bar graph depicts the total number of loans taken between 2007 and 2016 by the Little Chalfont Library.

Overall, the adults of age 18-64 had the maximum share of library's members. In comparison of 2007, the highest number of loan taken was in 2016 against the category of children's and adults fiction.

To begin with the pie chart, the largest share,51, of library's members were of age 18- 64, in comparison to the adults of age 65 and over, had the smallest share of 12. While young adults of age 13-17 covers the quater of the share, children had the share of 22.

About bar graph and the table, in 2016 the largest value of loan was taken, around 23,000, in comparison to 2017,which was 15,000.

The highest percentage,38%, of loan was taken for children's and adult fiction. Under 10% of loan was taken for other categorys such as adults audio book, and children's non fiction and DVDs, however, 13% of loan taken against adult non-fiction.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the three visuals and report some key figures, including the 51% share of members aged 18–64 and the 38% shares for both fiction categories. However, the overview is unclear and partly inaccurate: the highest loan total was in 2016, but the chart shows about 21,700, not 23,000, and the comparison with 2017 is invalid because the graph ends in 2016. The age-group figures are also misinterpreted: young adults account for 15%, not a quarter, and children make up 22%. The trend in loans from 2007 to 2016 is barely described, despite being a major feature. Select the main patterns accurately and give a clear overview before supporting it with comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs addressing the age chart and the other data. This helps the reader identify which visuals are being discussed. However, progression is uneven, particularly because the loan trend is not explained and the final paragraph moves between the table and graph without a clear sequence. Some linking phrases are awkward or do not express the intended comparison, such as “In comparison of 2007” and “however” before the adult non-fiction figure. Organise the body by visual or by related findings, and use links that accurately show contrast, addition, or comparison. Clearer references between sentences would also make the relationships among figures easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant task vocabulary, including “percentage,” “largest share,” “category,” and “total number of loans,” so the reader can generally understand the subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning less precise. For example, “loan taken against each category” is an awkward collocation, and “covers the quater of the share” is both unclear and misspelled. “Other categorys” also contains a spelling error, while “adults audio book” is not expressed naturally. Aim for precise chart language and check spelling and plural forms. Reusing “share” and “taken” can also be reduced by varying your reporting verbs and nouns.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mixture of sentence forms, including a contrast with “while” and a longer sentence beginning “The highest percentage, 38%…”. However, control is inconsistent, and several sentences contain errors in agreement, articles, or sentence construction. For instance, “the adults of age 18-64 had the maximum share” lacks a natural grammatical structure, while “the largest share,51, of library's members were” has punctuation and agreement problems. The clause “in comparison to the adults of age 65 and over, had the smallest share” is incomplete because it lacks a clear subject. Practise building accurate sentences around a subject and verb, and check spacing after punctuation, possessives, and singular/plural agreement.
