Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify all three visual elements and report some relevant headline details, including the two largest loan categories (children’s and adult fiction, both 38%) and the approximate peak in loans in 2016. However, the account is only partly developed: the age figures are not reported accurately, since 51% refers to adults aged 18–64, not “adult of 51 to 64,” and you call young adults the smallest group even though adults aged 65 and over are 12%, compared with 15% for young adults. The loan trend is also oversimplified: 2007 is the low point, but loans generally rise and fluctuate, rather than simply showing a rise in 2016. Include a clear overview and compare the main changes and proportions more precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable sequence: it introduces the charts, discusses membership and loan categories, then turns to the bar graph and ends with a conclusion. Paragraphing helps separate these topics, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” make the shift to the final chart clear. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear, and the conclusion largely repeats that the visuals show library information rather than summarising the main findings. Phrases such as “To begin with in chart” and “In conclusion, overall picture” are awkward, while “Which covers…” is an incomplete follow-on sentence. Use a concise overview after the introduction, then organise the details by chart with clear comparisons and references.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “percentage,” “total loans,” “x-axis,” and “bar graph,” so the reader can generally identify the subject of each section. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive. For example, “highest portion” and “lowest percentage has been shown” are less precise than describing the largest and smallest shares, while “Rise in loans observe” does not express the trend naturally. There are also spelling errors such as “infromation,” “varioys,” and “protion,” which reduce clarity and control. Build a more precise set of trend and comparison terms, and check spelling and word forms before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts some longer sentence forms, for example, “Moreover, there is a bar graph at bottom which gives information…,” but control is inconsistent and the range remains limited. Errors in agreement and verb forms occur in “Pie chart illustrate” and “Rise in loans observe,” while articles and sentence construction are also problematic in “in chart” and “There is a table along with chart which give information.” The final fragment, “Which covers the age…,” is not a complete sentence, and the opening sentence is difficult to follow because several ideas are joined without clear grammatical structure. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then add subordinate clauses while checking subject–verb agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries.
