Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main subjects of all three visuals and report several accurate key features: adults are the largest membership group, fiction is the biggest loan category for both children and adults, and loans are highest in 2016 and lowest in 2007. However, the overview is incomplete and some details are unclear or inaccurate. For example, “children are average” does not describe their share precisely, and saying adults and young adults are “12 and 15” reverses the figures: adults aged 65 and over account for 12%, while young adults account for 15%. The account of the loan trend also says it “rises eventually” without noting the fluctuations after 2011. Select the main comparisons more clearly and support them with accurate figures.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response follows a broadly sensible order, moving from the membership chart to the loan table and then the bar chart, and it includes an opening and a concluding statement. However, ideas are often crowded together in one long paragraph, so the reader has to work to distinguish the overview from the details. Linking expressions such as “In addition,” “Moreover,” and “In conclusion” are repeated or used mechanically, while some connections are unclear—for example, “children are average and adults and young adults are 12 and 15.” Use separate paragraphs for the overview and the main data, and connect comparisons directly rather than relying on frequent transition words.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “members,” “category,” “percentage,” and “number of loans,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning imprecise, such as “highest age is library members,” “children are average,” and “shows discripency.” There are also noticeable spelling and word-form errors, including “Particulatrly,” “catogery,” and “showes.” Aim for precise chart language and check spelling carefully. For example, describe the largest group as “the largest proportion of members” and use “fluctuations” when reporting changes in the loan totals.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts some longer sentences and uses basic present-tense reporting, but sentence structures are often faulty, and errors sometimes make relationships between figures difficult to follow. The opening, “The pie and bar char illustrates,” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “The age of library members begin with children and lasted upto adults 65 and over” has problems with tense and sentence construction. Missing spaces after full stops and inconsistent punctuation also affect readability. Practise building clear sentences with a subject and verb for each chart feature, and use accurate comparison patterns, such as “Adults aged 18–64 make up the largest group, at 51%.”
