Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the task by identifying the main features of the charts. However, the data reporting is inconsistent and contains inaccuracies. For instance, the text states sodium in dinner is 43%, whereas the chart shows 43% for saturated fat. Furthermore, the description of the data is somewhat confusing, particularly in the third paragraph where the figures for snacks and lunch are mixed up. While the response provides an overview, the lack of precision in reporting the data points significantly impacts the clarity and accuracy of the summary.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is hindered by awkward phrasing and confusing transitions. While cohesive devices like 'Overall', 'Furthermore', and 'Meanwhile' are used, they are sometimes applied mechanically or incorrectly, such as the abrupt transition 'But, the added sugar used only 19%'. The referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the three nutrients across the four meal types. The structure is present but lacks the fluidity required for a higher band.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'used', 'takes', and 'percentage'. There are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'rest two takes extra 2%' and 'sodium apply upto 21%'. These errors occasionally cause the reader to pause to interpret the intended meaning. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise verbs for data description (e.g., 'account for', 'constitute', 'peak at') and avoid informal phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response uses a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('added sugar utilise', 'sodium apply'), incorrect preposition usage, and punctuation errors. For example, 'the consumption of sodium in breakfast is lesser than the saturated fat' is grammatically awkward. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction limits the score.
