Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response covers all parts of the task and provides a clear overview of the main features. You successfully identified the highest and lowest values for the three nutrients. However, the analysis is slightly mechanical, listing percentages without always synthesising the data effectively. For example, the statement 'breakfast has the least choice' is unclear, as the charts show percentages of nutrients, not 'choices'. To reach a higher band, ensure that comparisons are more precise and that you avoid misinterpreting the data labels. The summary is accurate, but could be more analytical by grouping the nutrients or meals more effectively to highlight the most significant trends.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The response is logically organised into clear paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Overall', and 'In terms of' to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly repetitive or mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, although the sentence 'breakfast has the least choice among all three nutrients' is confusing in context. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence flows naturally from the previous one without relying on formulaic structures.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'consumed', and 'excess'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as '43% of sodium is account for by dinner' (should be 'accounted for') and 'breakfast has the least choice'. The phrase 'around two fifth of individuals liked added sugar' is also imprecise, as the chart refers to the percentage of nutrients in meals, not individual preferences. To achieve a higher score, focus on using more precise academic collocations and ensure that your vocabulary accurately reflects the data provided in the charts.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'sodium is account for' instead of 'accounted for', and 'sodium is least consumed at snacks as well as breakfast meal which is 14%'. Additionally, there are minor issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct passive voice construction would significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
