Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response attempts to address the task but fails to provide a clear overview or a comprehensive summary of the main features. While some data points are mentioned, such as sodium in dinner (43%) and added sugar in snacks (42%), the report lacks a logical structure to compare the three nutrients across the different meal types effectively. The information provided is fragmented, and the conclusion merely repeats the introductory premise rather than synthesising the key trends. To improve, you should group data logically (e.g., by nutrient or by meal) and ensure that the most significant differences and similarities are highlighted clearly for the reader.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the internal flow is disjointed. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link ideas, making the progression of information feel mechanical and repetitive. For example, the transition between the introduction and the body is abrupt, and the final paragraph adds no new information, which disrupts the logical flow. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the relationship between the sentences is not always well-managed. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'in contrast', 'furthermore', 'consequently') to connect your sentences and paragraphs more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. Phrases like 'average percentage' and 'present in' are used multiple times, which restricts the range of expression. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'available percentage of sodium' and 'impact on the meals', which do not accurately reflect the data provided. While the meaning is generally understandable, the lack of variety and occasional inaccuracies in terminology prevent the response from achieving a higher score. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise terms for describing data, such as 'proportion', 'constitute', or 'account for', would be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response relies heavily on simple sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles ('in usa'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward phrasing ('three all , which may be harmful'). Subject-verb agreement and sentence construction are inconsistent, which occasionally makes the text difficult to follow. While the errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like missing articles and incorrect verb forms. Incorporating more complex sentence structures, such as relative clauses or subordinating conjunctions, would also help improve your range.
