Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response is significantly under the 150-word minimum requirement, which severely impacts the ability to fully address the task. While you have attempted to identify some features of the charts, the analysis is incomplete and stops abruptly mid-sentence. To achieve a higher band, you must provide a comprehensive overview, include all relevant data points for each category (sodium, saturated fats, and added sugars), and ensure the comparison is fully developed. Currently, the response fails to cover the snacks and dinner categories, leading to a failure to report the main features as required by the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response lacks a clear structure due to its unfinished nature. There is no logical progression of ideas because the text ends abruptly. While you have attempted to introduce the topic, the lack of paragraphing and the incomplete sentences make it difficult to follow the flow of information. To improve, ensure you have a clear introduction, a body paragraph that logically groups the data, and a concluding summary. Using cohesive devices such as 'in contrast,' 'furthermore,' or 'whereas' would help connect your observations more effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'the pie charts shows' and 'types of nutrients' are functional but lack the precision required for an Academic Task 1 response. There are also errors in word choice, such as 'in the all 3 pie charts' and '2 percent less then', where 'than' should have been used. To improve, try to incorporate more specific terminology related to data description, such as 'proportion,' 'constitute,' 'account for,' or 'fluctuate.' Expanding your range of vocabulary will help you describe the trends more accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains several grammatical errors that hinder clarity. For example, 'the pie charts shows' is a subject-verb agreement error, and '2 percent less then' is a spelling/usage error. The sentence structure is quite simple, and the response ends with an incomplete sentence ('this means that at this time'), which prevents a full assessment of your ability to use complex structures. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct use of comparative adjectives, and ensuring that all sentences are complete and punctuated correctly.
