Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which negatively impacts the score. While you have identified the main features of the charts, the analysis is somewhat mechanical and lacks a cohesive overview that synthesizes the data effectively. You have successfully selected the key data points for sodium, saturated fats, and added sugars, but the description of the trends is quite basic. To improve, ensure you provide a more comprehensive summary that highlights the most significant differences and similarities between the three nutrients rather than just listing percentages for each category. Additionally, ensure you meet the minimum length requirement to avoid a penalty.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat repetitive and mechanical (e.g., 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'Thirdly'). The flow between sentences is occasionally disjointed, making the text feel like a list of facts rather than a cohesive report. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect your ideas more naturally. Ensure that your referencing is clear; for example, in the second paragraph, the transition between the different nutrients could be smoother to help the reader follow your comparison more easily.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety expected at higher bands. You rely on basic verbs like 'taken' and 'eating' repeatedly. There are also some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'excessive sugar contain' instead of 'excessive sugar content' and 'propostion' (spelling error). To improve, focus on using more academic vocabulary related to data description, such as 'account for', 'constitute', or 'a significant proportion'. Expanding your range of synonyms for 'high' and 'low' will also help you achieve a more sophisticated tone.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'sodium was taken in dinner which is high in number' (awkward phrasing), 'Leftover 29% was having in lunch' (incorrect passive voice), and 'saturated fat consuming by human' (should be 'consumption of saturated fat by humans'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with capitalization after periods. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structures and ensuring subject-verb agreement. Practice using the passive voice correctly, as it is essential for describing charts and graphs in Academic Task 1.
