Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response covers the main features of the charts, identifying key trends such as the high sugar content in snacks and the high sodium and fat levels in dinner. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear, cohesive overview. While the data is presented, the comparison between categories is occasionally confusing, such as the statement that breakfast has 'similar' nutrients, which is not fully supported by the percentages provided. The response would benefit from a more analytical approach that groups the data more effectively rather than listing percentages for each meal type in isolation.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by awkward phrasing and repetitive sentence structures. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Turning to the details' and 'In comparison', but they are sometimes applied in a way that does not naturally connect the ideas. The referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the connection between the sentences is weak. The overall progression of ideas is present but feels somewhat disjointed, making the reader work harder than necessary to follow the comparison of the data.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward word choice, such as 'had in snack' instead of 'found in snacks' and 'sugar is clear contrast can be observed'. The student relies on basic terminology and struggles with collocations related to data description. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of sophisticated or varied vocabulary limits the score. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise verbs and nouns related to statistical trends, such as 'account for', 'constitute', or 'a significant proportion'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('The given three pie charts illustrates'), incorrect verb forms ('highest value ware recorded'), and missing articles or prepositions. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of full stops where commas or conjunctions would be more appropriate. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would be highly beneficial.
