Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the charts, identifying the highest and lowest consumption levels for the three nutrients. However, the analysis is incomplete as it fails to mention the data for 'added sugars' entirely, which is a significant omission. While the overview identifies dinner as the highest for sodium and saturated fats, the lack of information regarding the third category prevents a higher score. The comparison between meals is generally clear, but the report would benefit from a more comprehensive summary of all three nutrients across all four meal types to fully satisfy the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The response is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. There is a logical progression from an introduction to the main body. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and limited. For instance, the transition between the general overview and the specific details could be smoother. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, and the paragraphing is somewhat abrupt. While the information is generally easy to follow, the lack of varied linking words and the somewhat disjointed flow between sentences limit the score in this criterion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to describe the data clearly. There are some noticeable errors, such as 'pic chart' instead of 'pie charts' and 'daily mail' instead of 'daily meals'. The phrase 'Adding user' is a clear error for 'Added sugars', which impacts the precision of the report. While the student uses some relevant terminology like 'percentage', 'consumption', and 'respectively', the range is limited and the errors in word choice occasionally impede the reader's understanding of the specific data points being discussed.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'The three pic chart illustrate' (subject-verb agreement), 'is contain' (verb form), and 'snack and breakfast account' (missing pluralisation). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas. While the meaning is generally conveyed, these persistent errors in basic grammar and sentence construction are noticeable and require attention to reach a higher band level.
