Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response covers the main features of the charts, identifying key data points for sodium, saturated fats, and added sugars across the four meal categories. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical and lacks a cohesive synthesis of the data. While the main trends are identified, the comparison between categories is occasionally confusing, such as the statement regarding breakfast nutrients. The overview is present but could be more effectively integrated to highlight the most significant differences, such as the high sodium in dinner versus the high sugar in snacks. To reach a higher band, ensure that data points are grouped logically rather than listing them meal by meal.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat repetitive and occasionally mechanical, such as the frequent use of 'In addition' and 'However'. The progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed, particularly in the second and third paragraphs where the transition between meal types feels abrupt. Referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and phrases to better connect the comparisons being made.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to describe the data points clearly. There are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'demonstrates' (should be plural 'demonstrate') and 'eat unhealthy' (should be 'consumed in unhealthy amounts'). The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on basic terms like 'large amount' and 'proportion'. To improve, the student should aim to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to data description, such as 'constitute', 'account for', or 'predominant'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures. There are several grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('The pie charts demonstrates', 'breakfast have'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward phrasing ('Dinner content different proportion'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. The student should focus on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement and pluralisation to ensure greater accuracy in their writing.
