Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response covers the main features of the charts, identifying the key nutrients and their consumption patterns across different meals. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical, relying heavily on listing percentages rather than synthesizing the data effectively. While the overview identifies that these nutrients are consumed in large quantities, it lacks a clear comparison of the relative impact of each nutrient across the meal types. The data is generally accurate, but the presentation could be more analytical to reach a higher band. The response addresses all parts of the prompt, but the development of the comparison is limited.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs for each nutrient. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat repetitive and mechanical, such as the frequent use of 'and' and 'also'. There are instances where the flow between sentences feels disjointed, particularly in the third paragraph. While the overall progression is clear, the lack of varied linking words and occasional awkward phrasing impacts the fluidity of the text. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different nutrients, which helps the reader follow the information.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. The student frequently uses basic verbs like 'used' and 'consumed' repeatedly. There are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'usage of sodium... are consuming largely' and 'snacks has been covered the entire percentage'. These errors do not impede communication, but they demonstrate a limited range of lexical items. To improve, the student should incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to data description, such as 'account for', 'constitute', or 'predominant'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('sodium... is largely consumed', 'snacks has been covered') and awkward sentence construction ('all which may be unhealthy if eaten too much in USA'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors indicates a lack of control over complex grammatical forms. The student should focus on basic sentence structure and subject-verb agreement to improve accuracy.
