Average percentages of sodium, saturated fats and added sugars in typical meals consumed in the USA
Student answer (Band 5.0)
To begin with, we see the charts and focus on typical meals and see the unhealthy nutrients consumed in the USA.
Furthermore, there are three types of nutrients first Sodium second Saturated fat and last is Sugar. These are harmful for human body if we consumed more than our body need. On the top of graph we see the 42% sugar in snacks, 21% fat and 14% sodium. After thinking on this the doctors don't allows us to take lots of snacks if the children eat snacks on daily routine then this is harmful and destroy human body power.
The other main point is that in USA people consumed these three nutrients on daily basics firstly, in breakfast they consumed 16% sugar and fat and 14% sodium. Secondly, in lunch 19% sugar, 26% fat and 29% sodium. Thirdly, in dinner 43% sodium, 37% saturated fat and 23% sugar.
On the other hand, who they not consumed these three nutrients they live healthy and stay more active compare to those peoples.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response attempts to summarize the data, but it fails to provide a clear overview of the main trends. While you mention the three nutrients, the description of the data is disorganized and contains inaccuracies. For instance, you state that 42% of sugar is in snacks, but the chart shows this figure for dinner. Furthermore, you include personal opinions and advice about doctors and children, which is not required in an Academic Task 1 report. An effective response should focus strictly on reporting and comparing the data provided in the charts without adding external commentary or subjective analysis.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a logical structure. While there are paragraph breaks, the flow of information is disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes misused, such as 'To begin with' and 'On the other hand,' which do not fit the context of a data report. The referencing is often unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison of the three nutrients across the different meal types. To improve, you should group the data logically—perhaps by nutrient or by meal—and use transition words more naturally to link your observations.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic verbs like 'consumed' and 'see' throughout the text. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'human body power' and 'daily basics,' which are not natural English expressions. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'account for,' 'constitute,' 'the highest proportion,' or 'a significant amount,' and ensure that your word choices are precise and appropriate for an academic report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'doctors don't allows'), incorrect verb tenses, and sentence fragments. The sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at more complex sentences are often faulty, such as 'if the children eat snacks on daily routine then this is harmful.' Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing commas and periods. Focusing on basic sentence construction and ensuring subject-verb agreement will help improve the clarity and accuracy of your writing.
