Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the three nutrients and their distribution across four meal types. Key features are highlighted, such as the high sodium and saturated fat content in dinner and the high added sugar in snacks. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical, listing percentages without consistently synthesizing the data. For example, the comparison between sodium and saturated fat could be more integrated. While the main trends are identified, the overview is slightly cluttered with specific data points that would be better placed in the body paragraphs. Overall, the response provides a clear summary of the information presented in the charts.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction followed by body paragraphs for each nutrient. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'Moving to', though some transitions feel repetitive or mechanical. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the referencing is occasionally awkward, such as 'the highest among of it 37% number in dinner'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different categories of nutrients, which helps the reader follow the structure of the report. The overall arrangement is coherent, though the flow could be improved with more varied linking phrases.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several spelling errors, such as 'propotion', 'ingrideants', and 'sanck', which distract the reader. The student relies on basic phrasing like 'highest consumed' and 'top most of all'. While the student successfully uses terms like 'nutrients', 'saturated fat', and 'sodium', the lack of sophisticated collocations or varied descriptive language limits the score. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on accurate spelling and using more precise academic vocabulary to describe trends and proportions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include incorrect verb forms ('was added', 'was founded'), subject-verb agreement errors ('charts depicts', 'sodium and saturated fat contributes'), and awkward phrasing ('the highest among of it 37% number'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the frequent errors in basic grammar and word order occasionally impede the clarity of the message. The student needs to focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage to improve accuracy.
