Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response successfully identifies the main features of the charts and makes relevant comparisons between the nutrient types and meal categories. You have provided a clear overview and supported the main points with specific data from the charts, such as the high sodium and saturated fat content in dinner and the high added sugar in snacks. The information is accurate and covers all parts of the prompt. To reach a higher band, ensure that you avoid minor inaccuracies in data reporting, such as the slight confusion in the lunch section where you mentioned '29% of sodium consumption' rather than '29% of the sodium in the meal'. Overall, the task is well-addressed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs that group information by meal type. You use cohesive devices such as 'overall', 'by contrast', 'in addition', and 'subsequently' to guide the reader. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by mechanical errors and some awkward transitions. For instance, the transition 'subsequantly, in luch' is slightly abrupt. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different meal categories. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'they' referring back to snacks) is always clear and precise.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportions', 'distribution', and 'contribute'. However, there are frequent spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'avarage', 'highter', 'poportion', 'breackfast', 'luch', 'cintributes', and 'amost'. These errors are noticeable and detract from the professional tone of the report. While you attempt to use less common vocabulary, the persistent spelling issues and occasional word-choice inaccuracies (e.g., 'considerable lower' instead of 'considerably lower') limit the score. Focusing on proofreading for spelling and refining collocations will significantly improve your lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, such as missing spaces after commas, incorrect verb forms ('lunch contain' instead of 'lunch contains'), and missing articles. For example, 'in luch sodium account for' should be 'in lunch, sodium accounts for'. These errors occur frequently enough to be distracting but do not impede overall communication. To achieve a higher band, you need to demonstrate better control over subject-verb agreement and punctuation, and aim for more error-free complex sentences.
