Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers all three nutrients and identifies the main features, such as the high consumption of sodium and saturated fats at dinner, and added sugar in snacks. However, the report is overly descriptive and lacks a clear overview or summary of the data trends. The structure is fragmented, with each nutrient treated in isolation rather than making meaningful comparisons across the meal types. To improve, you should group the data more effectively and provide a clear introductory overview that highlights the most significant differences between the nutrients and their consumption patterns.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response lacks a formal structure. The use of headings like 'First let's see' and 'Now let's check' is informal and inappropriate for an Academic Task 1 report. Paragraphing is inconsistent, and there is a lack of cohesive devices to link ideas smoothly. The transition between sentences is mechanical, and the overall progression of information is disjointed. To improve, use formal linking words (e.g., 'In contrast,' 'Furthermore,' 'Conversely') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus rather than just listing data points.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is repetitive and basic. Phrases like 'let's see,' 'highly used,' and 'greatly used' are used repeatedly, which limits the range of expression. There is little attempt to use academic or precise terminology to describe data trends (e.g., 'account for,' 'constitute,' 'predominate'). Spelling errors, such as 'jn' instead of 'in,' and inconsistent capitalization of nutrients also detract from the quality of the writing. Expanding your vocabulary to include synonyms for 'high' or 'low' and using more precise verbs for data reporting will significantly improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response relies on simple sentence structures and contains frequent grammatical errors. There are issues with article usage (e.g., 'in USA' instead of 'in the USA'), inconsistent punctuation, and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'So we could check that saturated fat is more likely to be use in dinner'). The lack of complex sentence structures limits the range, and the errors occasionally make the text feel disjointed. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct preposition usage, and incorporating a wider variety of complex sentence forms to describe the data more fluently.
