Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all parts of the task and provides a clear overview of the data. You successfully identified the main trends, such as the dominance of sodium and saturated fats in dinner and the high sugar content in snacks. However, the report could be improved by grouping the data more effectively to highlight comparisons rather than listing figures for each meal time sequentially. While the key features are present, the analysis is somewhat descriptive and lacks a more sophisticated synthesis of the data to reach a higher band. Overall, the response is accurate and addresses the prompt well.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Similarly' and 'With regard to', to link ideas. However, the paragraphing is slightly unbalanced, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. Some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the repetition of sentence structures (e.g., 'X accounts for Y') makes the progression feel slightly repetitive. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring a more balanced paragraph structure would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'constitutes', and 'consumption' correctly. There is some attempt to use less common vocabulary, but the range is somewhat limited, and there is a tendency to repeat the same words (e.g., 'proportion', 'percentage'). To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more varied synonyms and precise collocations to describe trends, such as 'predominates', 'marginal', or 'a significant share'. The spelling is generally accurate, and the vocabulary used does not impede communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While most sentences are clear, there are some minor punctuation errors, such as missing spaces after commas (e.g., '43%,while') and inconsistent capitalization. You demonstrate control over basic grammar, but the range of complex structures is somewhat limited. To improve, try to vary your sentence beginnings and use more sophisticated grammatical structures, such as relative clauses or participle phrases, to combine information more fluidly. The errors present do not impede the reader's understanding.
