Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the task by describing the bar charts showing the average percentages of sodium, saturated fats, and added sugars in meals consumed in the USA. The main features are presented, such as the comparison of nutrients across breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. However, the conclusion about health implications is slightly vague and not fully developed, which affects the clarity of the task's achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
Coherence and cohesion in the response are adequate. The structure is logical, with a clear introduction and separate discussions for each nutrient. However, there are minor issues with cohesiveness, such as the phrase 'where both are 14%' which could be clearer. Additionally, phrases like 'the greatest amount of sodium is in dinner' can be simplified for better flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is appropriate but lacks variety and precision at times. For instance, 'effect your health' should be 'affect your health.' Phrases like 'a moderate amount of nutrients' are vague; specificity would improve clarity. The use of comparative terms could also be enhanced to better illustrate distinctions in nutrient levels.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
Grammatical range is fairly good, with a mix of simple and complex sentences. However, there are several grammatical errors such as 'may effect your health' (should be 'affect'), 'the lowest persentage is in snacks and breakfast' (should be 'percentage'). Sentence structures could be varied more for better engagement.
Overall feedback
Overall, your response effectively summarizes the data presented in the charts, but there are several areas for improvement. Focus on specifically describing the data and avoiding vague language. Strengthen your conclusions or implications regarding health to make them more persuasive. Work on grammatical accuracy and try to incorporate a wider variety of vocabulary to enhance clarity and sophistication. Also, improving transitions between points can help with coherence.
