Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the task by identifying the three nutrients and their distribution across meals. However, the report lacks a clear overview or summary of the main trends, which is a requirement for Band 6 and above. The information is presented as a list of data points rather than a synthesis of the most significant features. While the student identifies specific percentages, the lack of an analytical approach—such as grouping the highest and lowest values or noting significant disparities—limits the score. To improve, you should group information logically and provide a clear, concise summary of the overall patterns observed in the charts.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response lacks paragraphing, which makes it difficult to follow the progression of ideas. The text is essentially one long block, which negatively impacts the logical flow. While there are some attempts at cohesive devices (e.g., 'If we move to', 'now the breakfast'), these are often repetitive and mechanical. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the lack of distinct paragraphs for the introduction, body, and overview prevents the response from achieving a higher score. Using clear paragraph breaks and a wider variety of linking words would significantly improve the structure and readability of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'high', 'low', and 'percent'. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word-choice errors, such as 'the end of the day we end our day' and 'compare to sodium lunch'. While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is not sufficient to demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands. To improve, try to incorporate more precise comparative language and avoid repeating the same sentence structures and vocabulary throughout the report.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('The chart illustrated', 'dinner... which require'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are run-on or lack proper punctuation, which makes the text feel disjointed. While the student attempts some complex structures, they are often inaccurate or poorly formed. To reach a higher band, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring consistent verb tenses, and improving the accuracy of your punctuation. Proofreading for common errors like missing articles and incorrect pluralization will also help.
