Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all three nutrients and identifies the main trends, such as dinner being the primary source of sodium and saturated fats, and snacks being the main source of added sugars. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. The data is presented as a list of figures rather than a cohesive summary. For example, stating 'sodium is mostly utilized for crafting dinner is 43%' is grammatically awkward and lacks analytical depth. While the main features are identified, the comparison between the categories could be more effectively synthesized to highlight the overall nutritional profile of these meals. The report meets the requirements but lacks the sophisticated selection of data points expected at higher bands.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'Secondly', but they are often used mechanically or incorrectly. For instance, 'Moreover, saturated fats more employ for manufacturing dinner' does not flow well from the previous sentence. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the referencing is sometimes repetitive, and the connection between sentences feels disjointed. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs relies heavily on listing data rather than developing a logical argument or comparison.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is limited and often inappropriate for an academic report. The student uses non-standard collocations such as 'crafting dinner', 'manufacturing dinner', and 'building snack'. These choices suggest a lack of familiarity with academic register. While the student successfully uses terms like 'percentages', 'nutrients', and 'saturated fats', the overall range is narrow and repetitive. The word 'use' and 'employ' are used frequently and often incorrectly in context. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise verbs like 'account for', 'constitute', or 'comprise' when describing data trends.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Issues include incorrect verb forms ('saturated fats more employ'), missing articles, and awkward phrasing ('the highest numbers of ratio of sodium'). Subject-verb agreement is also inconsistent. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of errors in basic sentence construction prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. The student needs to focus on sentence structure, particularly the correct use of passive voice and prepositional phrases when reporting statistical data.
