Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarise the data, but it fails to provide a clear or accurate overview. While you identify some key features, the descriptions are often imprecise or factually incorrect based on the provided charts (e.g., claiming breakfast has the lowest ratio of all three nutrients, which is not clearly supported by the data). The report lacks a systematic approach to comparing the four meal types, and the information is presented in a fragmented manner. To improve, ensure you accurately extract data points and group them logically to highlight the most significant trends rather than listing individual percentages without clear context.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression of ideas is weak. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused, such as 'In adding to this' or 'Then in lunch'. The transition between sentences is frequently abrupt, making the text difficult to follow. Referencing is also unclear at times, particularly when discussing the meals. To achieve a higher score, focus on using a wider range of linking words more naturally and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus that contributes to the overall summary of the data.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'ratio', 'percentage', and 'amount'. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'diet givern' and 'the first meal of day breakfast'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the information with precision. To improve, you should learn and apply topic-specific vocabulary related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'constitute', 'significant', and 'marginal', and work on improving your spelling and collocation accuracy to ensure your meaning is always clear.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Snack is... because it contain'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are run-on or lack necessary punctuation, which disrupts the flow. While there is an attempt to use complex structures, they are often faulty or incorrectly punctuated. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb forms, and using commas and periods appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Practicing the use of relative clauses and passive voice would also help improve your grammatical range.
