Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, ending abruptly mid-sentence. While the introduction and overview attempt to address the task, the body paragraphs are confusing and fail to accurately report the data. The comparisons are difficult to follow, and the description of the charts is incomplete. The failure to complete the response significantly impacts the ability to provide a clear summary of the main features, leading to an under-developed response that does not fully address the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks a logical flow. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the progression of ideas is disjointed. Cohesive devices such as 'In the first hand' and 'On the other hand' are used incorrectly or inappropriately, making the relationships between the data points unclear. The referencing is often confusing, and the abrupt ending prevents the development of a coherent structure. The overall arrangement is hindered by the incomplete nature of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often used incorrectly. Phrases like 'significantly drop' and 'rapidly plunge' are used as verbs where nouns are needed, or vice versa, leading to awkward phrasing. There is a lack of precision in describing trends, and the word choice is repetitive. The student struggles to use academic collocations effectively, which limits the ability to convey information accurately. The vocabulary is sufficient for basic communication but lacks the range required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'saturated fat are similar'), incorrect word forms (e.g., 'saturated food' instead of 'saturated fats'), and sentence fragments. The attempt to use complex structures often results in errors, such as 'in added sugar their is a sharply incline'. Punctuation is also inconsistent. The range of structures is limited, and the errors are frequent enough to cause difficulty for the reader.
