Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the ability to fully develop the task. While the student attempts to identify some trends, the analysis is incomplete and lacks a clear overview of all data points. Several key features are omitted, and the summary is fragmented. Because the response is significantly under-length, it cannot adequately address all parts of the task, resulting in a low score for this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The response is poorly structured and lacks a logical flow. While there is a basic attempt at paragraphing, the ideas are disjointed and the text ends abruptly mid-sentence. Cohesive devices are largely absent or used incorrectly, making the progression of information difficult to follow. The lack of a clear introduction and a cohesive conclusion further hinders the overall readability of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary range is very limited and repetitive. The student relies on basic terms such as 'large' and 'part' to describe the data, failing to demonstrate the ability to use more precise academic language required for describing charts. There are also errors in word choice, such as 'take the more part' and 'used more sodium', which impede the clarity of the message. A wider range of vocabulary related to data trends is necessary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that affect communication. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('The three pie chart illustrates', 'sodium take the more part') and incorrect sentence structures. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the punctuation is inconsistent. The errors are frequent and often cause difficulty for the reader, indicating a need for significant improvement in basic grammatical control and sentence construction.
