Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all three nutrients and provides data for each meal type. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. While you mention the highest and lowest values, the comparison between the three charts is limited. For example, you mention the 'collective ratio' of saturated fat but do not effectively contrast the overall trends across the three nutrients. The report lacks a clear, cohesive overview that synthesizes the main trends, such as noting that dinner consistently contains the highest levels of these unhealthy nutrients. To reach a higher band, ensure you group information logically rather than just listing figures, and provide a more analytical summary of the data.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into three short paragraphs, which is a logical structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally awkward, such as 'Moving ahead' and 'Apart from this'. The flow between sentences is sometimes disjointed, particularly in the final paragraph where the data points are listed without clear transitions. The referencing is generally clear, but the overall progression of ideas could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would help improve the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'discrepancy', 'collective ratio', and 'nutrients'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'unusual meals' (likely meant 'typical') and 'rendered pie charts' (which is unnecessary). There are also minor issues with punctuation and spacing, such as 'snack was14%'. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensure that your word choices are contextually appropriate. Avoid using filler words or overly descriptive phrases that do not add value to the data analysis.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, including missing articles ('in dinner', 'in lunch'), incorrect preposition usage, and inconsistent capitalization (e.g., 'united states of America'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary commas and missing spaces after periods. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement, article usage, and standard punctuation rules to enhance the accuracy of your writing.
