The charts below show the average percentages in typical meals of three types of nutrients, all of which may be unhealthy if eaten too much.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Average percentages of sodium, saturated fats and added sugars in typical meals consumed in the USA

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The pie charts illustrate the average percentage of nutrients namely sodium, saturated fats and added sugar in four categories of meals in the UK and these nutrients may be harmful to body when they are taken inappropriately.

Overall, it is evident that the percentage of nutrients found in these meals varies significantly. While dinner had the highest percentage across all nutrients except in added sugar where snacks recorded the largest proportion, breakfast contained least percentage of nutrient.

Regarding sodium and saturated fat, sodium recorded the highest percentage share in dinner at 43%, followed by 29% 0f sodium in lunch and snacks and breakfast shared similar proportion at 14%. Meanwhile, saturated fat was found mostly in dinner at 37%, 26% was found in lunch and 21% in snacks. However, breakfast reported in the lowest percentage share in saturated fast at 16%.

Turning to added sugar, snack dominated the proportion of sugar content, followed by dinner at 23% and brunch contained 19% . Similarly, breakfast recorded the least percentage nutrient in added sugar.
