Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features of the three nutrients across the four meal types. You successfully highlight the dominance of supper for sodium and saturated fats, and the unique trend for added sugars in snacks. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical, listing figures rather than synthesising the data into a more cohesive narrative. To reach a higher band, ensure that comparisons are more analytical; for instance, noting that while supper is the primary source for two nutrients, snacks represent the most significant source for added sugar. The overview is clear, but the supporting details could be better organised to highlight the most significant trends more effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is organised into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the overview to specific details. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'In the case of', and 'In comparison to' to link your points. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by slightly repetitive sentence structures. The use of referencing is generally clear, though some transitions feel a bit mechanical. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence flows naturally into the next would enhance the overall coherence of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'consumption', 'injurious', and 'comprises'. There are some minor errors in collocation and word choice, such as 'supper takes up the largest share in all three pie chart' (should be 'charts') and 'breakfast has same percentage' (missing an article). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the information clearly, it lacks the precision and variety of less common lexical items that would be expected at a higher band level. Focusing on more sophisticated synonyms and accurate prepositional usage will help improve this score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'breakfast comprises of' (the verb 'comprise' does not take 'of'), 'both the snack and breakfast has' (subject-verb agreement error), and missing articles throughout the text. Punctuation is generally functional, but there are instances where spacing after commas or periods is inconsistent. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct usage of verbs that do not require prepositions. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures while maintaining accuracy will also be beneficial.
